Introduction

Since its inception in 2017, Stop Food Waste Day (SFWD) has become a cornerstone of our commitment at Compass Group to combat food waste. Aligning with the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goal #12.5, we strive to minimize waste while fostering sustainable practices. Throughout April, we engaged in various activities to raise awareness about food waste, culminating in the celebration of SFWD on April 30, 2025. Our objectives include uniting communities through food, promoting innovative engagement, and increasing social media exposure to highlight our sustainability efforts.

Deliverables Summary

This year, our activities included a comprehensive array of initiatives aimed at raising awareness and encouraging participation. We rolled out vibrant information campaigns featuring posters and digital materials. Also, we implemented engagement activities such as food drives and interactive workshops designed to involve our community directly. Our digital promotion efforts focused on sharing SFWD recipes and highlighting the activities we conducted through various social media platforms.

Specific Activities for 2025

1. Food Drive: From April 22 to 30, we hosted a food drive in collaboration with Feeding HK, with 14 units participating this year. Teams set up booths to encourage customers, clients, and students to donate non-perishable food items, such as canned goods and dry staples. Together, we received 11 boxes of donations that will support those in need.

2. Opark1 Visit: On April 25, 15 participants visited Opark1, Hong Kong’s first organic resources recovery center. This visit provided insights into sustainable practices, including waste-to-energy processes, and inspired participants to adopt more environmentally friendly habits.

3. Feeding HK Workshop: On April 16, 15 enthusiastic volunteers participated in an engaging warehouse workshop focused on repurposing surplus food. Our team collaborated with Feeding Hong Kong to tackle food waste and support those in need. Together, we sorted and repacked over 2.5 tons of donated food items for local communities. It was a rewarding experience working alongside passionate individuals dedicated to making a positive impact.

4. Sustainability Booth: Throughout April, we set up a sustainability booth in several of our units to promote SFWD. At the booth, we offered coffee grounds, seed bookmarks, and eco-enzymes as giveaways. This initiative aimed to raise awareness about food waste and share valuable information on sustainable practices. By engaging our community in meaningful conversations, we encouraged everyone to think critically about food waste and inspired them to adopt eco-friendly habits in their daily lives.

5. On-Site Photo Sessions: Teams engaged in photo activities to capture their commitment to food waste reduction. These sessions encouraged staff and customers to share their experiences on social media, amplifying our message and fostering community involvement.

6. Stop Food Waste Mystery Box: Throughout April, participating units offered a mystery box filled with surplus food items. This initiative encouraged creativity in reusing ingredients and provided a fun way for customers to engage with our mission.

As we reflect on our activities for Stop Food Waste Day 2025, let’s continue to work together to reduce food waste and foster a culture of sustainability. Your participation in these initiatives has made a significant impact in our planet!
